When I started OMOM in 2015, it was with my idea for fruit bags. Quite soon, I also wanted to make a more "real" fabric bag; I was so tired of fabric bags without bottoms where I could pack two milk cartons and then it was full, roughly. And since I am quite short, I also wanted short handles besides the shoulder straps.
After a few years, the fruit bag actually became something for everyone, and the range of reusable bags increased drastically. I think it's fantastic that the average person in Sweden now owns a reusable bag for fruit or at least has seen them. At OMOM, you can get sustainably produced and organic reusable bags, not at the cheapest price, but you can buy them with a clear conscience knowing that the artisans who sewed your fabric bags have a living wage and a safe workplace. And - they are not made from newly produced polyester or nylon.
With the introduction of the plastic tax here in Sweden, interest in my fabric bags increased significantly and they are now OMOM's best-selling product.
I have realized that when designing products, it is best to design based on your own needs; often, others have missed the same product. It is fantastic to receive such positive reactions and reviews on the tote bags every day, and it motivates me to design more reusable products that fulfill an actual need. Never again a tight fabric bag without a bottom!
