Which fruit bag is the best?

Which fruit bag is really the best? Is it possible to say?

No, unfortunately there are no simple answers, all materials have their environmental pros and cons. Here is some information about different common materials.

Plastic bag:
Advantages: Energy- and resource-efficient production, lower carbon emissions than paper bags, partially recyclable.
Disadvantages: Made from non-renewable raw material (oil), can contribute to littering and slow decomposition.
Paper bag:
Advantages: Made from renewable raw material, recyclable, biodegradable, option to choose FSC-certified paper for sustainable forestry.
Disadvantages: Energy-intensive production, causes higher carbon emissions than plastic bags, deforestation contributes to carbon emissions.
Cotton bag:
Advantages: Made from renewable raw material, reusable, option to choose organic or Fairtrade-certified cotton.
Disadvantages: Energy-intensive production with high carbon emissions due to water needs and transport.
Polyester bag:
Advantages: Durable and long-lasting, low carbon emissions during production, reusable, water-repellent.
Disadvantages: Made from non-renewable raw material (oil), but can be made from recycled polyester.
There is no perfect choice as all bags simply have a negative environmental impact, but recommendations often include choosing reusable bags, offsetting emissions, and ensuring sustainability and eco-labels when purchasing. If you choose to buy reusable fabric bags, make sure to get into the habit of always bringing them and use the bags many times. OM and OM again - OMOM ❤️
In the picture - our fruit bag in jute 🌿 Jute grows quickly, requires less water than cotton, and can be harvested three times from the same farmland per year. These bags are also very durable. The downside? It is grown in a warm climate and therefore must be transported long distances.
Don't forget, we all do the best we can. Thank you for that!
